One of my favorite parts of the year is Spring and Fall because I can just empty my closet and refill it with a whole new personality.
I mean, completely empty it, socks included.
I’ve been told to be content and be happy with what I have and to be grateful too. And I want to point out that its perfectly okay to shed that old skin of yours and update your style every once and a while.
And update your friend list as well.
I’m sure you’ve heard someone say something that your tastebuds change every couple of weeks, or that your own skin sheds everyday. I love using that concept when it comes to lifestyle and habits; think about the things our body does for us on a regular basis, but we don’t do those things for ourselves consciously.
For example:
I learned this back in college, but the way your body unconsciously brings itself back to a stable state is insane:
When you shiver, that’s your body creating heat contracting and expanding your muscles repeatedly. Thermoregulation.
Your growth is cold. Now your social/private/relationship life are all paying for it.
We aren’t a species meant to stay in one spot. There is no species alive that isn’t meant to transform. Cells transform into an infant which turns into a child that turns into an adult. Organisms go through constant change their entire lifespan, so why are you treating your mental health the same way?
When someone says the term PTSD to describe their reaction to a situation, that person hasn’t evolved yet from that situation. It is still a highlight in their brain and they most likely haven’t processed through it. I’m not saying these people are toxic, unaware, or need to be “disposed of” but we all have PTSD of some sort.
It’s how you handle your reaction to the situation that matters.
I’m sure a majority of you have been in a car accident. How many of you get back in the car and start driving at some point? You might still have that anxiety, looking in the rear view mirror every 5 seconds, but over time, you stop looking as much and start to only use it for backing out or checking traffic every so often or making sure that cop you flew past didn’t turn his lights on…
cough
Back to the moral of this, change is inevitable and necessary. Change has to happen for every living thing, and your mental health has to go through different points of growth as well.
STOP PUTTING YOUR MENTAL HEALTH ON THE BACK BURNER.
STOP TREATING IT LIKE THE VEGGIES IN THE BACK OF YOUR FRIDGE.
Take it seriously.
The brain is a biologically alive part of our body that functions based on the food we eat, activities we do, and the habits we develop: physically and mentally.
Taking a walk first thing in the day is going to allow oxygen to circle through our body; being outside in the sunlight will allow our skin to absorb the nutrients we need to help kill depression; speaking about our feelings, frustrations, and excitements are going to allow us to process emotions in healthy and positive ways.
The only way that you are going to be able to attract a healthy life, is establishing a healthy routine and constantly upgrading it. Change out the clothes in your wardrobe, buy a new pair of shoes, new meal prep, different workout routine, different book genres, different people…
