It’s a hot girl summer indeed. And while all of you newly single ladies and gents who also want to have a hot girl summer are going to be piling to WTR or Sunday brunches and Tuesday beach days, you’re going to see and hear a lot about the sensitivity of your skin under the sun- and they’re right.

But they’re wrong at the same time.

Most generic sunscreens are known to have ingredients such as octinoxate, cinoxate, padimate O and avobenzone in them- which are cancer toxins.

The commercials will exhaust the fact that you need to put something on your face, and TikTok is going to pay some individuals to promote certain brands, but you need to be aware of what money buys and what your skin actually needs.

Bombastic side-eye

In 2021 the FDA conducted a study on sunscreen safety, finding only zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are considered safe. The other stuff doesn’t even have significant data produced to know what they are/what they do. The European guidelines and standards proposed on health, food, make up and other regulations are more strict than what we have here, which is why cancer is the leading cause of death in the United States. I’ve resorted to using European brands just as a trial, and per my last blog, you can tell its helped detoxify my body from the unknown trash we use in America and other countries to sell a product.

What big names do is use other big names to promote, no matter how toxic and how horrible the product may be- I mean, look at tampons and their ingredients in the plastics. Not only that, but the foods as well. Kraft Cheese isn’t even cheese..

The European Commission published their opinions on the safety of 3 organic UV filters and found that 2 of them are not safe in the amounts at which they’re used, limiting oxybenzone and homosalate to under 2.2% of concentration while the US uses up to 15%. Legally, they can do that.

When you apply sunscreen, it can be used as a spray or a topical lotion. So it has to be safe for the organs.

However, it was reported that in a study conducted to see those two active ingredients were commonly found in breast milk, and the CDC found that it causes allergic reactions, hormone disrupters and more harm to children.

So what’s safe? Dr. Axe just published an article for the summer of 2023:

Annnnnnnd even Rolling Stone did their part:

Most Sunscreens Harm Reefs and Wildlife — Use These Eco-Friendly Options Instead

So go enjoy Hot Girl Summer, go live your life, go take care of your skin and mental health and soak in that Vitamin D! Life is truly what you make it out to be; the reactions to your situations and the way we take care of ourselves all depict how we’re going to live, so just remember that as we take our tequila straight and our friends (safely) home. 🫶🏼🫶🏼
